Problem uploading photo for Elizabeth Hoffman

[edit]
Problem with uploading an iconic photo for Elizabeth Hoffman (professor) under her authorization.

Being a personal friend of Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman residing at Ames, Iowa now, since January 1994, I, a resident of Taipei, was authorized by her yesterday to upload her iconic photo with Wikipedia. Although I have successfully uploaded her iconic photo with Wikimedia Commons two hours ago. I’m unable to upload the same iconic photo to Wikipedia and also cannot use the existing electronic file from Wikimedia Commons. It seems that I’m not allowed to upload her iconic photo with English version of Wikipedia from Taipei. Kindly advise me how to upload Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman’s iconic photo with English version of Wikipedia. Please be advised that I have registered a user name as Lawrence Luh with Wikipedia two hours ago. Lawrence Luh (talk) 08:55, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

The file being talked about is File:Elizabeth Hoffman.png. Now, @Lawrence Luh, a few things you need to do. Ask Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman to send a mail to WMF with their clear statement of permission to publish that image here, failing which it maybe deleted after seven days. You can get all the required help at COM:VRT. I've also left relevant notice at your talk page and tagged the file as such. As for the second part of your question, you need not upload that image to wikipedia, all you need to do is add [[File:Elizabeth Hoffman.png]] to the wikipedia article (if it exists ofcourse). This image will appear there. Shaan SenguptaTalk 09:33, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Kindly advise what is WMF stands for? How to send an email to WMF? Kindly advise the email address of WMF. Lawrence Luh (talk) 09:53, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
WMF means Wikimedia Foundation. I already gave you everything needed. Plz re-read my earlier reply and you'll have your answer. Shaan SenguptaTalk 10:05, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Dear Shaan Sengupta,
Many thanks for your kind/helpful assistance indeed.

Who took the photo? You say it was you, but it seems not? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:44, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
And the "photo" actually seems to be a screenshot... Herby talk thyme 15:10, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
A few hours ago, I received confirmation from Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman that she will proceed with the following two actions shortly:
  1. Activate the “Use the Interactive Release Generator”
  2. Send an email to the Wikimedia Foundation to authorize my previous submission of her iconic photograph with Wikimedia Commons
I will keep the future developments posted on the Commons: Administrators’ noticeboard of Wikimedia Commons. Lawrence Luh (talk) 08:40, 21 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Lawrence Luh: I recommend having her send a carbon copy to you to keep you in the loop.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:46, 21 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Dear Jeff,
Many thanks for your awesome suggestions and I shall do that to protect my valuable reputation.

An awesome idea indeedǃ Lawrence Luh (talk) 11:08, 21 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Please be advised that Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman has confirmed to me yesterday the following two matters:
  1. The photograph of her iconic photo submitted to the Wikimedia Commons on February 20, 2026, has been completed and submitted the Release Generator to the WMF accordingly.
  2. Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman has issued an authorization letter via email address to the WMF yesterday. She will send the hardcopy of the email signed by her to me shortly via express forwarding arrangement. Lawrence Luh (talk) 11:51, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
We have no need of a hard copy.
You have still not said Who took the photo. Is that made clear in the email? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:03, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is mainly to save my carbon print for the protection on any possible challenge against me in future. Lawrence Luh (talk) 12:06, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I already indicated that the photographer has submitted the Relive Generator to the WMF already. This has fulfilled the legal requirements of WMF already. Lawrence Luh (talk) 12:09, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
No, you didn't mention the photographer doing so. But if they have, that's fine. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:24, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Kindly see my latest comment that the photographer did activate the Release Generator on Feb. 23, 2026. I made a typo of Feb. 20, 2026. Lawrence Luh (talk) 12:44, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Of course Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman's authorization letter clearly indicated the name of the photographer who took the photo. Lawrence Luh (talk) 12:11, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
The On February 20, 2026, the photographer of Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman’s photograph has completed the necessary form and submitted the Release Generator as per requirements of the Wikimedia Foundation. Lawrence Luh (talk) 12:41, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Lawrence Luh: That is better news. I meant that the photographer should carbon copy the email message to you, so that the VRT Agent may reply all including you (keeping you in the loop). You can still join the conversation if the photographer forwards the latest email message(s) and you reply with the ticket number in the subject line, as it appears in the forwarded message(s). That even applies to any automatic reply.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:54, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Dear Jeff, I do appreciate your kind assistance and good will always. I’m sending my regards to you and your country always from my heart. Lawrence from Taiwan Lawrence Luh (talk) 13:00, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Category move

[edit]

Please revert the recent move of the correct Category:Threepences of the United Kingdom to the nonsensical Category:Threepence of the United Kingdom. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:22, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Pigsonthewing: Would Category:Threepence coins of the United Kingdom be acceptable?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:44, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
It would not be in keeping with others in the series such as "Sixpences..."
en:Threepence (British coin) uses "Threepences" as the plural. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:11, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request for file names to be swapped

[edit]

Hello, I was told to make this request here over at Commons:Help desk. I would like for the names of the files File:Annan Way, New Lubbesthorpe - 11 September 2025.jpg and File:New Lubbesthorpe public footpath - 11 September 2025.jpg to be swapped around. Thanks. Aethonatic (talk) 10:04, 26 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Aethonatic plz use {{Rename}} on the pages. It'll be carried out. You may use {{Rename|1=(the name you want)|2=1|3=(your reason here)|user=Aethonatic}} for it. Also fix the file description accordingly. Shaan SenguptaTalk 11:48, 26 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Shaan Sengupta: I've gone ahead and put the rename template on both files. Aethonatic (talk) 12:26, 26 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Aethonatic ✓ Done Shaan SenguptaTalk 12:49, 26 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Shaan Sengupta: Admin assistance will be necessary for this.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:40, 26 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Jeff G., not really. File movers have suppressredirect that helps in this situation. I carried out the request myself by suppressing redirect while moving one of the file to a temporary name and then doing the process as described at COM:FR. Since it was not used anywhere, there was no need for any replacement. Even if it was in use, I would've used the global replace script or maybe added replace commands at User:CommonsDelinker/commands/filemovers. Shaan SenguptaTalk 12:53, 26 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
