Translating the main theme song (片頭曲) “Sacrifice Your Heart" (揮出一片心) from The Sword and The Sabre 1988 (決戰皇城) into English.

Original Cantonese Song by Adam Cheng (鄭少秋).

"The Sword and The Sabre" which was originally released as simply "Kuet Gin Wong Shing" was a fun and enjoyable wuxia/historical created by TVB and released in 1988. The plot is a simple one and takes place in the late Song Dynasty which is ran by corrupt government officials. It takes place when war hero Yue Fei (岳飛) is imprisoned and later executed. Against this backdrop are two elite martial artists, one who is superb with the sword and the other who is superb with a sabre. They duel many times in the series as they have a blood debt from the previous generation. They overcome their differences to tackle the corrupt officials. The romances end tragically which is pretty sad, but as I said I still found the series enjoyable.

At the time of its release the series was not well liked. Critics panned Adam Cheng for being too old and one dimensional. He plays the typical dashing hero. This would be his last wuxia series for TVB before reviving his career with ATV. The co-star was Bryan Leung (梁家仁). As an adult, I can enjoy his performance. As a kid I didn't really like his character as his thirst for revenge was a bit too over the top for me. Eddie Kwan (關禮傑) rounded out the male cast.

In terms of the female cast, it was lead by Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯) who as I mentioned is one of my favourite actresses. I loved her playfulness at the beginning and she definitely looked cutter in a Han costume. Charlene Tse (謝寧) featured in her customary role as an all round good and innocent girl. They are both princesses from rival nations. Rounding out the cast is Wong Yee Kam (王绮琴). She is the loyal adopted sister of Adam Cheng's character who later falls for Bryan Leung's character.

The main theme song which I titled "Sacrifice Your Heart" is sung by Adam Cheng. The song is short but pretty epic. Anyway enjoy...
